Surfing the web, visiting foreign countries, shopping at the supermarket - all these activities are enabled in the background by PKI. PKIs are a proven method of building trust because they provide a trust anchor for integrity, confidentiality and authentication.
There is now a global trend to connect large numbers of sensors and devices to the internet and cloud to automate processes, gain insights or provide functionality to end users. These devices communicate with each other, require software updates or maintenance access. To reduce the risk of potential cyber attacks, these functions should be secured.
