- Extensive congress and forum programme on current topics such as the shortage of skilled workers

The it-sa Expo&Congress was an unqualified success: 693 exhibiting companies (2021: 273) and 15,229 trade visitors (2021: 5,184), plus 1,848 active users of the it-sa 365 dialogue platform during the event, made use of it-sa to interact on the question of IT security. This emphasizes the importance of it-sa as Europe’s leading trade fair. At the same time, it fulfils its claim to be the “Home of IT Security” – on-site in Nuremberg and also in the digital sphere with the hybrid elements forming part of the event. With high points such as the special keynote by Avast CISO Jaya Baloo on quantum cryptography, the presentation of the ATHENE Startup Award UP22@it-sa and panel discussions on the role of women in the IT security industry, the event picked up themes of current interest in its supporting programme. A State reception hosted by Albert Füracker, Bavaria’s State Minister of Finance and Home Affairs, was held on the evening before the actual event. Visits by many political representatives and representatives of professional associations at a State, national and European level also underline the relevance of the it-sa Expo&Congress as a platform for dialogue on cyber security.
“Full exhibition halls and an excellent level of exhibitor participation following the ‘restart’ last year show that the it-sa Expo&Congress is more popular than ever,” observes Frank Venjakob, Executive Director it-sa, NürnbergMesse. “Initial feedback from long-standing exhibitors indicates that it-sa has picked up its continuing success story from where it left off and is resuming its familiar format. My special thanks go to all exhibitors who help make the ‘Home of IT Security’ the leading dialogue platform for cyber security.”
Five open forums with Special Keynote on quantum cryptography
Exhibitors got to the heart of subject-area knowledge with a record programme of about 350 presentations in five open forums. Once again this year, the forum presentations were a drawcard for the public, offering an extensive range of information on technical subjects, urgent questions for management, and the latest regulatory and legal developments relating to cyber security.
The Special Keynote at it-sa 2022 was given by Avast CISO Jaya Baloo. A cryptography expert, Baloo illustrated the current state of research and the first practical uses of quantum cryptography processes in Europe and also in China, for example. Currently, according to Baloo, practical trials in China are already much further advanced, thanks in part to massive financial support. Although European investment in this area is much lower, she noted that it benefits from having the leading brains in scientific operation. To avoid being left behind in the competition for this future-oriented technology, she urges that the knowledge gained from research be channelled via start-ups.
The shortage of skilled workers was addressed by two formats in the forum programme: The presentation by the winner of the “Germany’s best hacker” initiative, and also the contributions in the series “Women in Cybersecurity” – panel discussions on launching into the profession and prospects in the sector from the viewpoint of female experts.
Selected forum presentations from the it-sa Expo&Congress were transmitted live via the it-sa 365 dialogue platform. Separately, all forum presentations will shortly be made available online for on-demand access on it-sa 365.
TrustCerts pleased with ATHENE Startup Award UP22@it-sa
This year’s winner of the ATHENE Startup Award UP22@it-sa appeared not only at its own stand but also on the forum stage: As part of a panel discussion involving the keynote speaker, TrustCerts accepted the prize for best cyber security start-up in the German-speaking region. Gelsenkirchen-based TrustCerts received the award for its verification service using blockchain.
TeleTrusT confirms its status as Premium Partner
Cooperation between premium partner Bundesverband IT-Sicherheit (IT Security Association Germany, TeleTrusT) and NürnbergMesse as organizer of it-sa was confirmed by the signing of an agreement as part of a high-level VIP tour. The existing commitment on the part of TeleTrusT has thus been extended through to 2024. “TeleTrusT is an active participant in the it-sa Expo&Congress, the leading trade fair and conference for IT security in Germany,” says Dr Holger Mühlbauer, Managing Director of TeleTrusT. “The association welcomes the commitment by NürnbergMesse as an important contribution to the regular showcase for German and international IT security. TeleTrusT is a premium partner to the trade fair, and has been a committed supporter of it-sa since it was established.” Frank Venjakob, Executive Director it-sa, comments: “We welcome this clear acknowledgement of it-sa and look forward to further joint activities relating to the it-sa Expo&Congress or online on our digital dialogue platform it-sa 365.”
Congress@it-sa includes annual meeting for IT security chiefs at a State and municipal level
The accompanying congress programme for Congress@it-sa also underlined the relevance of it-sa as a dialogue platform for cyber security. Once again this year, the annual meeting for IT security chiefs at a State and municipal level was held in Nuremberg as part of it-sa. Further target group-specific presentations by congress partners provided information on subjects such as cyber insurance, incident response, legal implications of the Data Act for AI applications, and much more.
The next it-sa Expo&Congress will take place at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 10 to 12 October 2023.
it-sa 365 continues dialogue online following the it-sa Expo&Congress
During the trade fair, the hybrid channel “it-sa@home” carried impressions of the event on the web. The it-sa 365 dialogue platform offers the IT security community the opportunity to continue meeting in a digital space even after the it-sa Expo&Congress. The first fixed dates in the calendar for it-sa 365 are already in place for March and May, when the IT Security Talks will offer providers from all industry segments the opportunity to give an online presentation to the active platform users (currently more than 9,000 in total) over a two-day period on each occasion, in addition to presenting products and solutions and networking with technology representatives with an IT security function. Additional online formats complement this year-round service. These will be communicated in good time in advance.
Save the date: The IT Security Talks will be held on 7-8 March and 9-10 May 2023.
