Built-in security for classified information with Samsung Knox Native:
Mobile working requires comprehensive security, especially in business areas with high security requirements due to confidential data. Knox Native is Samsung's first hardware-based security solution evaluated by the BSI (German Federal Office for Information Security) that meets the stringent requirements for processing classified information at classification level “VS - for official use only” (VS-NfD).
Built-in Hardware Anchor:
Secure mobile solutions for storing data have been around for some time – including for the processing of classified information. However, until now, this required external SD cards, additional software and various PINs. Samsung is now taking a new approach: For the first time, a certified hardware anchor – the Samsung embedded Secure Element (eSE) – will be installed as the heart of selected mobile devices*. This element is certified to the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+ and creates a safe, isolated area on the device. Together with the BSI Java Card Applet (Mobile Security Anchor), it enables the encrypted storage of person-specific and classified data according to the specifications of the BSI. This means that the solution has now also been officially approved for the processing of information with the classification level "VS – Only for official use" (VS-NfD).
High security for standard applications:
With the release for the VS-NfD environment, Samsung is meeting the growing security requirements in the environment of federal authorities. Native functions such as e-mail, calendar or contacts can now also be used on the corresponding devices for the processing of classified information. However, it is not only the public sector that can benefit from the high security standards of mobile working. The use of Knox Native is also easily possible for private companies such as energy suppliers, banks or other organizations with strict requirements for the security of their confidential data.
Simplified security features:
One advantage of Knox Native is its ease of use. A single PIN is sufficient to activate all areas. In addition, users do not have to accept any restrictions in the user experience despite the high security standard. With Knox Native, they can use the pre-installed apps in the familiar Android environment. By separating the two areas, the devices can also be used for business and private purposes. In addition, there is the possibility of integrating company-owned apps via specific interfaces without time-consuming evaluation. This means that even larger fleets of equipment can be operated economically at a high level of safety.
Management via Knox Suite:
The Knox Suite is available for managing Samsung devices. The tool set bundles all Knox products such as Enrollment, Manage, E-FOTA, Asset Intelligence or Remote Support for IT administration. This allows various processes in the corporate environment – from automatic initial setup to enforcement of applicable security policies and update management – to be covered effectively and throughout the entire lifecycle of mobile devices.
