Action description

The ongoing digitalization and networking of energy supply present new challenges for grid and plant operators. Particularly in Operational Technology (OT), security risks are becoming increasingly complex and threatening. Cyberattacks on critical infrastructures have the potential to significantly impact the security of supply and the operation of energy supply companies. Therefore, it is crucial not only to focus on monitoring security risks but also to establish proactive security management.
In this presentation, we will highlight the key aspects of current cybersecurity legislation (NIS2, KRITIS-Dachgesetz / EU RCE) and its practical implementation in the energy sector. A special focus will be on the importance of cyber resilience and the continuous monitoring of security risks. To meet legal requirements, it is essential to conduct regular cybersecurity training to ensure employee awareness. Well-trained employees are a critical factor in security management, as they can identify potential threats early and respond appropriately.
However, monitoring alone is not enough. It is equally important to actively manage vulnerabilities and threats to ensure the security and stability of OT infrastructures. We will address the specific requirements and challenges that arise in the OT sector and show how grid and plant operators can overcome them. We will present practical approaches and proven methods that have emerged from applied research. This research provides valuable insights and innovative solutions on how to implement and continuously improve effective security management.
Another focus of the presentation will be on the opportunities that active security management offers. Through proactive measures, potential threats can not only be detected and countered early but also the overall resilience of systems against cyberattacks can be increased. This leads to a more robust and secure energy supply that meets the demands of the modern, connected world.
