IT security and data protection only work together. One does not work without the other. The legal basis is given in Art. 32 GDPR, the EU data protection regulation.
Because IP addresses are personal data, every communication in computer networks to which users are connected is a data protection issue.
With the German law TTDSG, even terminal based communications, that can be assigned to individuals, is relevant to data protection, even if no personal data would be affected.
In the presentation, the legal and technical bases will be mentioned, and recommendations for higher security and better data protection will be given.
Among other things, data transfer to the USA, which is considered an unsafe third country, will be discussed. A soon expected data protection agreement between the EU and the USA will probably not last long.
Find out which risks and opportunities exist and which technical options are available, for example, to make cloud applications more legally sound.
With regard to server log files, especially on web servers, we will work out why the storage of IP addresses without a reason is not necessary and therefore probably not possible in compliance with the law.
