Action description

By now digital sovereignty has become a central topic, especially in the context of innovation and competitiveness of the German economy, in politics, and public administration. Open-source software is a crucial aspect of this sovereignty as it can be flexibly adjusted to meet individual requirements. Moreover, open source also allows for especially GDPR-compliant operation of the software within a local infrastructure or the infrastructure of freely chosen provider within Europe.

In the area of Identity & Access Management (IAM) these liberties are especially valuable as it is supposed to help with the consolidation of often very heterogenous IT landscapes to enable users to access all resources with only one account – ideally with single sign-on. Further, IAM software must be able to replicate the very individual on- and off-boarding processes of an organisation. Open source offers this necessary flexibility as to not needing to adjust processes to the software but the other way around: the software can adjust to the preferred processes.

We would like to introduce to you several open-source products in the area of IAM:

• OpenLDAP as highly scalable directory service
• midPoint and didmos as flexible IGA/IAM systems
• Shibboleth for SSO capable access management

Additionally, we will show you how these products can be combined due to their standard interoperability.
